What to do if you're locked out of your house

Check every door and window that could be safely open – back doors, patio doors and garages are often forgotten.
Think about who has a spare key: a family member, neighbour, landlord or letting agent.
Don't try to force a door or window. You can damage the frame or hurt yourself, and repairs often cost more than a locksmith.
If you rent, call your landlord or agent first – they may have a key or a preferred locksmith.
Call a local locksmith and ask for a quote before they set off. A good locksmith will tell you the price up front.
