uPVC door handle stiff? Don't ignore it

Most uPVC doors use a multipoint lock with several bolts along the edge. When the door drops, those bolts rub and the handle gets stiff.

Try lifting the handle with the door open. If it's smooth when open but stiff when closed, the door is probably out of alignment.

A small hinge adjustment can often fix it. If you keep forcing the handle, the gearbox can break and leave you unable to open or lock the door.

Call a locksmith while the problem is small – it's usually a quicker and cheaper fix.
